side table
cube, a side table inspired by the world of the American minimalist artist Sol LeWitt's Incomplete Open Cubes, an art collection demonstrating 122 possibilities to construct an unfinished cube. This source of inspiration led to the design of barh’s cube. Consisting of an incomplete cube as a support and a transparent surface as a side tabletop.
Sol LeWitt
Sol LeWitt was a famous American conceptual artist and founding father of minimalism as an art form. Throughout his career Mr. LeWitt moved many people with his modest yet fantastic works of art. The barh team was inspired specifically by his Incomplete Open Cubes, which led to the conception of barh’s cube. Most remarkable is that barh was able to realize this in consultation with the family of the late Sol LeWitt, for which the team is very grateful.
Casa l’Orto, Praiano
In preparation of cube’s design, Jeroen, Sam and Rico traveled to the Italian Amalfi coast, to the house Casa l’Orto in the town of Praiano. It was in this country house that the mother in law of Sol LeWitt lived and it was later prepared by Sol for living together with his wife, resulting in many typical influences that can be found throughout the house.

Rico Bel: “I feel a special attraction coming out of the work of Sol LeWitt. It was clear to me for a long time that I wanted to do something special with it. The work of Sol is often meant as an inspiration to other artists and in that respect, it is ideal to build on. The contact with Sol’s family and our presence in his house in Amalfi felt like coming home, an experience shared with many other fans who had the chance of visiting his house.“
materials
barh’s cube is made out of an incomplete open cube as base unit with a glass surface as table top. The support unit is made out of fine black wood stained beams, supported by a brushed stainless-steel frame. A material combination that guarantees a unique, industrial look.
